Timelapse footage of the aurora borealis in the night sky. The aurora are caused when charged particles in the solar wind are channeled to the poles by the Earth's magnetic field. Here they collide with gases in the atmosphere, exciting them. The gases emit light when they return to a non-excited state. Filmed from Spitsbergen island in the Norwegian Arctic.
