Von Braun developed the V-2 rocket during World War II but later played a central role in developing the rockets used in NASA's Apollo missions to the Moon. The Apollo 11 Saturn V rocket was launched at Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, USA, and was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. The crew consisted of Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Buzz Aldrin.
