Winding roots of Dragonsblood trees (Pterocarpus officinalis), called 'mangroves' by the locals, not only keep the riverbanks of the rivers in Dominica intact, they are the banks, causing the ground beyond them to look like a wall-to-wall carpet of wooden eels. The trees can live to be over a hundred and fifty years old, and they can rise over a hundred feet tall, east of Calibishie, Dominica; Commonwealth of Dominica
