A female, wavy-rayed lampmussel (Lampsilis fasciola) at Marion Conservation Aquaculture Center. This animal is displaying her mantle lure, which mimics a fish. The fake fish moves in the current in order to get a real fish to bite it, which will release glochidia (their microscopic babies) into the fish’s gills, allowing the baby mussels to hitch a ride upstream.
