Neil Armstrong's first steps on the Moon, during the Apollo 11 mission. Neil Armstrong (1930-2012) descended the ladder on the Lunar Module at 02:56 UTC on 21st July 1969. As he stepped onto the surface he declared, \That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind\". Shortly afterwards, in this shot, he is collecting a contingency sample from the lunar surface with a long-handled trowel, in case the mission has to abort suddenly and leave the surface. The footage shows a rare glimpse of Neil's face seen through the clear visor, the gold reflective cover in its up position to give Armstrong a clearer view of what he is looking at. The gold visor gave the view a yellow tint. The footage was filmed by his colleague, mission pilot Edwin \"Buzz\" Aldrin."
