Apollo 11 ticker tape parade, Chicago, August 1969. Footage of the Apollo 11 motorcade in Chicago, USA, on 13 August 1969. NASA astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Mike Collins were the crew of the historic Apollo 11 mission, achieving the first landing by humans on the Moon on 20 July 1969. This was the second parade held to honour the Apollo 11 astronauts, with estimates of more than 2 million people lining the streets. This was the second of two ticker tape parades held that day, preceded by one in New York and followed by one in Los Angeles. Later that day, there was held a State Banquet in Los Angeles with the presentation of the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the astronauts. Similar scenes occurred over the following months in other US cities and across the world as people turned out to see the men who had been to the Moon.
